writers/artists support workshop sept 26-27
hi everyone,
this will be the 3rd lunar Metagame Artists' Support Workshop. we meet approx
every 4 weeks, near the moon's first quarter (Sep 26-27, Oct 24-25, Nov 27-28,
etc). there is of course some continuity for those who attend regularly, but
each meeting stands independently, so please come when you can, and bring your
colleagues too.
these workshops are for artists in any media (writing, painting, music, dance,
film, etc) who live and work in spiritual consciousness (with any, all, or no
particular religious affiliation). the workshops have proven to be a good
opportunity for us to dedicate quality time and attention to our creative work
and our identities & experiences as artists, in a safe non-competitive
supportive environment. see the day's schedule below for details.
please rsvp for the Sep 26th workshop by Sep 24th. send e-mail or voice-mail
including your name, phone & e-mail, need/give a ride? (& your location).
i'll call/write you back to verify the workshop location, give directions, and
network people about rides.
hope to see you!

mg artists fall schedule & news
hi everyone, welcome back from a good hot summer!
as we begin a 2nd year (!) of metagame artists support workshops,
this fall & winter we'll be changing back to an all-day workshop
once a month (sundays instead of saturdays), and movie night on
the friday before each workshop.
movies, fridays 7pm-?: Sep 3, Sep 17, Oct 22, Nov 19, Dec 17
workshops, sundays noon-9pm: Sep 19, Oct 24, Nov 21, Dec 19
yes, we have actually discovered a few transcendent movies during
the past many months... if you'd like to see which ones, the new
metagame artists transcendent movie index is always in progress at
http://members.aol.com/vansprouts/metagame/movies.html
...and transcendent movie suggestions are always welcome, by e-mail
or preferably in person at movie night! (as before, movies start
at 7pm, casual dinner 6-7pm, no rsvp necessary, arrive any time
with your own dinner and/or potluck/munchies, vegetarian only
please, and no smoking or drugs)
also see the new virtual refrigerator door, covered with stuff
we've made at the artists workshops, stuck on with little virtual
refrigerator magnets, yeah :-)
http://members.aol.com/vansprouts/refrig/door.html
for those who missed our great wilderness retreat camping weekend
at Cook Forest in July, i'd like to report that it was indeed "The
Holiday Inn of Camping" as promised by Veronique, but our food was
much better than Howard Johnson's. many thanks to Veronique and
Barb for organizing the trip, and especially to Veronique for taking
us to some of her favorite places for meditation and drawing. and
thanks to Chris for catalysing some artists workshop stuff during
the weekend. and thanks to Sheila, we all floated gently merrily
down the Clarion River for a beautiful sunny saturday afternoon!

mg artists & food Nov 19 & 21
"bless this food, everywhere it's been,
and everywhere it's going... yum, yum!"
- traditional metagame artists blessing
in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday, i'm reminded that
truly good nutritious food (and clean air and water) are essential
for healthy physical and spiritual functioning, while many foods
and additives (and pollution) that we take for granted seriously
inhibit our functioning.
it's not very easy (here) to find simple true information on this
important and neglected issue, or truly experience good health and
clarity of mind, so we've decided to focus on food at this month's
artists workshop Nov 21.
instead of tale-spinning, we'll spend the afternoon preparing some
favorite recipes from the Metagame Artists Community Restaurant,
including organic whole-grain sourdough breads, veggie pancakes,
sprouted stuff, various shades of green-drink, healthy cookies and
munchies, yum yum! all ingredients, utensils, etc will be here...
call with questions or special requests/contributions. bring some
art-work for intros and after dinner. workshop cost is the usual
$10, plus $5 for materials.

Barbara Anne and i are no longer at any of the same addresses,
but we occasionally collaborate on dances of universal peace.
she is making her home in Gila NM, and you can contact her at

mrs emma p felione, the cat of universal peace, will be remembered
along with other sufi martyrs, free at last of trouble from the dogs
of blind authoritarian violence. the rest of us are still here.
eventually i'll publish an account of my recent near-death
experience (2002 December) in the family newsletter and on
my new website... meanwhile i'll be glad to answer questions
etc by email or in person. and after 3 months of full-time
healing work, i'm almost recovered from 15 years of normal urban-industrial
pollution as well. thanks to all for your blessings!
the old metagame artists workshops & community design are
floating back to mind, and i'll be looking around new mexico
(espec santa fe) for people & communities with similar interests.
descriptions of the workshops & community are still on my old
website at http://members.aol.com/vansprouts/metagame/
(the new website will be "in progress" for a while ;)
thanks for ideas, contacts, etc...

oct 3 sunday - conference on permaculture & sustainability in terrasante community
announcing...
the next conference on Permaculture & Sustainability in TerraSante Community
2010 October 3 Sunday from 6 to 8 pm, hosted by vansprouts metasofa summer camp
you're cordially invited to the next meeting on "permaculture & sustainability in greater terrasante". this is a followup and continuation of two community permaculture meetings at jetana's, and the natural building seminar with ranjit from india (http://kepfound.org/building.html), all about this time last year.
this next meeting will be at my summer campsite, beginning with an informal/potluck dinner at 6 pm, along with a short eco-tour of the campsite, which is also an off-grid sustainability demonstration project (http://cv.metasofa.org/summer10.html)
there's a map & more info at http://cv.metasofa.org/tsconf1010.html
hope to see you! - chris vansprouts

thanks to everyone who attended and helped setup & cleanup. we had nice small group (david victoria tom liisa chris), good weather, good food, good discussion, and a good time!
thanks also to everyone who took a virtual tour of my campsite at http://cv.metasofa.org/summer10.html ... live tours are available by request, preferably late afternoons, and definitely after tuesday community meetings.
hopefully there'll be another meeting on these topics in a month or so, and a tour of victoria's new moringa tree greenhouse - also see http://cv.metasofa.org/vickidome.html

hello metasofa friends & family,
seems to me like it's a good time to create (or join) a not-for-profit alternative educational web development & media production company...
the primary work will be web & video documentaries of appropriate technology & eco-village communities, along with the development and hosting of alternative community web apps & services. (for an example, please see this design for an online community currency co-op - http://cv.metasofa.org/ccccc.html)
to collaborate in this work, i'm looking for serious business partners, graphic artists, videographers, programmers, musicians, et al... which could also be the start of (or another project for) a more general artists collective and/or community.
i'd also like to find a campsite closer to tucson (within solar electric biking distance), and continue gardening in the desert and growing other small-scale 'sustainability' projects. (here's something about my current campsite - http://cv.metasofa.org/summer10.html)
if you know of any people or projects that may be related or interested in this (including yourself :) would you please introduce us!
many thanks,
chris vansprouts

p.s. the metasofa artists community is now listed in the ic.org intentional communities directory at http://directory.ic.org/23513/
p.p.s. two years later in tucson, no garden, no campsite, expensive food & everything else, no money, no video, but making tiny tiny progress in a back alley of this backwards major city which totally pretends to solar power and sustainability. if i'm careful, my old 10-speed human-powered bike does ok on these amazingly straight, level, and wide sun-sucking asphalt streets (a very large proportion of tucson's sprawling surface area, and growing...)
metasofa.org is now hosting one community web service, along with this website and some others on our own "100% organic grassroots cloud" of community-owned free-linux webservers. our server hardware is no big deal, each machine is about 10 years old, absolutely worthless as a personal computer, including some solar-powered laptops with broken screens, but they're fast enough for internet servers and debian linux is fantastically reliable!
(on the highly esoteric subject of "sustainable internet", i'm currently working out how to float our own dns servers in a cloud of dynamic ip's, what fun! your old wifi ipods will still work on our network when the grid is down :)
the one community web service is tucson's community timebank, up on the metasofa cloud since last summer 2012. this timebank is a member-based community directory for finding people, services offered and wanted, and other resources, anywhere on the internet (not just tucson).
in a timebank, everyone's hours are worth the same, which could be the basis of a simple global currency standard for truly "fair trade", whereby people from any/everywhere in the world can trade equal hour for equal hour with whomever they like. (we'll see how long it takes to catch on :)
meanwhile, check out comfy metasofa's member listing in the timebank. the comfy metasofa needs your participation and support, please help! this is good work to be doing in this world at this time, please contact me if you're interested.
and join your local-global timebank, it's free to join and infinitely valuable to participate. read more and sign up here - metasofa.org/timebank
